About This Community Development Corporation Of Long Island

The United States Department of Housing and Community Development (HUD) administers the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, which provides rental assistance to low-income families through Federal funds. This program, also known as Section 8, assists more than 2 million low-income individuals every year across the country. Participants are able to choose their own residence anywhere within the United States, as long as they meet certain residency requirements during their first year. The units selected by participants must meet HUD standards for both affordability and safety. Once a lease agreement is signed between the landlord and tenant, the tenant family is responsible for a portion of the rent based on their income, while the HCV program pays the remainder directly to the landlord. For those with lower incomes and who rely on assistance programs, achieving the dream of owning a home may require additional subsidies and innovative financing. The Voucher Home Ownership Program is designed to provide such support.

How to apply

Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed income levels.
