About This Key West Housing Authority
Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, except for holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
We provide 590 units of public housing for low-income families, with residents paying 30% of their monthly adjusted income for rent and utilities. 200 of these units are reserved for elderly residents aged 62 and above at the Henry V. Haskins Senior Citizen Plaza, while the remaining 390 units are available to families and seniors across Key West.
Through our Housing Choice Voucher Program, also known as Section 8, we offer rental assistance to low-income families in the private rental market. Funded by the Federal government, this program provides rent subsidies to cover the difference between what families can afford to pay and the total rental cost.
We currently do not accept applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
In addition, we own and operate 385 units of affordable housing throughout Key West. These units have income requirements and rental rates that are based on income brackets, and are lower than comparable market rate rentals. Our affordable housing options are available to families with children and seniors alike.
How to apply
Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government
authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department
addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding
projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed
income levels.
