About This Community Housing Initiative, Inc
Established in 1992, Community Housing Initiative, Inc. (C.H.I.) is a non-profit corporation that aims to advance affordable housing. Our mission is to provide affordable housing to low and moderate-income households in the communities we serve. We strive to improve the quality of life and forge strong relationships with existing service organizations. We also aim to educate communities about the importance of affordable housing. C.H.I. offers a program that assists with down payment, closing costs, and repairs in Melbourne, Palm Bay, Cocoa, Titusville, and Brevard County. We have experience administering down payment and closing cost assistance through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Program and the HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) Funds. To date, C.H.I. has assisted 806 first-time homebuyers through our down payment and closing cost assistance program (as of April 2014). We are also a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agency, offering pre-purchase counseling, pre-purchase group education, rental counseling, and homeowner improvement and maintenance counseling.

authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department
addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding
projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed
income levels.
