About This Housing Authority of the County of Santa Clara

The public hours for the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Clara (HACSC) are from 7:30am to 5:00pm on Mondays through Thursdays, and on alternating Fridays. HACSC runs separate waiting lists for three federal programs: Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), Project Based Voucher, and Moderate Rehabilitation. The average wait time for a household to receive a housing voucher is between 8 to 10 years. Some housing programs require applicants to be referred by a supportive service agency. All waiting lists for new applicants are currently closed. HACSC's largest rental assistance program is the Housing Choice Voucher, with approximately 17,000 participants. This program provides a federally funded rental subsidy for low-income households residing in privately owned rental units. Voucher holders in the Moving to Work program pay 32% of their gross income towards rent (or a minimum of $50), while HACSC pays the rest of the rent directly to landlords on behalf of these families. For more information on HACSC's housing programs, please refer to their website.

How to apply

Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed income levels.
