About This Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority
The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority is responsible for managing programs that provide housing assistance to low income residents. These programs, such as Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8, are based on income and eligibility guidelines set by HUD. If you are in the area and need housing assistance, please contact the Housing Authority directly for more information about eligibility requirements, availability of rentals or vouchers, waiting lists, and application procedures. The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) manages several programs that help low and moderate income families and individuals find affordable rental housing in Fairfax County. These programs are designed to provide rental housing to those who need it most, including single persons who are elderly or disabled. Housing units are available for working singles at two FCRHA properties. Families in the Housing Choice Voucher Program can select their own units within program guidelines through participating private landlords, while those in Public Housing can choose to pay 30% of their income or an affordable fixed rent. There are waiting lists for all programs, but temporary closures to new applicants may occur. To apply for any of the housing programs, you can visit in person, call the Housing Application Center, or apply online.
