About This College Hill Homes

This apartment complex is designed for families with low income. The government provides funding directly to the owner of the complex. Rent is charged at a reduced rate for those who meet the low income criteria. To inquire about affordable family housing that is subsidized by the government, please contact this apartment complex by calling 434-845-2822. Located in Lynchburg, Virginia, the College Hill Preservation (CHP) project involved the renovation of 10 large, historic homes into multi-family rental apartments in 2003. These apartments are specifically designed for low-wealth and very low-income families, with a total of 28 available units. The homes underwent a major transformation, during which the interiors were gutted, redesigned, and divided into comfortable family units. Each renovated home now contains two-, three-, or four-bedroom apartments. The apartment complex also offers various resident services programs, such as financial literacy, individual development accounts (IDA), employment skills development, parenting classes, computer literacy for adults, and workforce development services (including resume preparation, job counseling, job readiness, and career advancement seminars). This apartment complex is eligible to accept HUD subsidies. If you qualify for low income housing and there are available apartments, rent is based on 30% of your Adjusted Gross Income. Please call for details regarding the availability of 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom, and 4-bedroom apartments at this location.

How to apply

Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed income levels.
