About This Lynhaven Apartments
There are 27 garden apartments situated in a charming tree-lined neighborhood in the City of Alexandria. The property has stunning landscaped grounds and consists of 5 one-bedroom apartments and 22 two-bedroom apartments. Wesley Housing offers 16 of these apartments as affordable units, with 4 of them designated for families that have previously been homeless and are transitioning from Carpenter's Shelter. The remaining units are rented at market rates. The apartments have been fitted with new roofs, thermal pane windows, air conditioning, fencing, and landscaping. They are conveniently located near Cora Kelly Magnet Elementary School and the Cora Kelly Recreation Center. If you are interested, you can contact (703) 548-0093 for leasing information. In 2002, Wesley Housing, Carpenter's Shelter, Northern Virginia's largest homeless shelter, and the City of Alexandria collaborated to preserve these 27 garden apartments. Carpenter's Shelter provided $250,000 to support the use of 4 apartments for families transitioning from homelessness. The City of Alexandria approved a loan of $325,000 from its Housing Trust Fund (HTF), which is funded by fees paid by developers to subsidize affordable housing in the area. This project was the City's first HTF public/private partnership. Wesley Housing invested $210,000 to rehabilitate the Lynhaven Apartments, and the Virginia Housing Preservation Fund (VHPF) awarded them a $75,000 loan to assist with the rehabilitation. The renovation was completed in the summer of 2003 and included new roofs, furnaces, thermal pane windows, landscaping, paint, carpets, appliances, and bathroom fixtures in select apartments. No residents were displaced during the purchase or rehabilitation. Partners in this project include Carpenter's Shelter and the City of Alexandria.
