About This Beverly Park Apartments

Beverly Park is a smaller community that offers affordable housing and is at risk of gentrification. In order to improve the quality of life and make the community more energy-efficient, Wesley Housing undertook a project as part of the ongoing renewal of the Arlandria neighborhood. This project involved the acquisition of the property in October 2005, with the assistance of finance partners including City of Alexandria, the Housing Partnership Network, and United Bank. The aim was to create long-term affordable housing units that serve individuals at 60% and below and 50% and below the Area Median Income. The City of Alexandria, the Virginia Housing Development Authority, and RBC Capital Markets Tax Credit Equity Group were the construction and permanent finance partners. The renovations included new windows, entrances, and full interior renovations, and the green building standard was Earthcraft. The project also involved combining efficiencies and one-bedroom units to create larger units that provide more options for families.

How to apply

Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed income levels.
