About This Chico Commons
Chico Commons is a complex comprising 72 apartments located at 2071 Amanda Way, Chico. These apartments are available at affordable rates to households that are eligible under the income and selection criteria. The selection process is based on financial responsibility and behavior history, which are used to determine the eligibility of the applicants. Despite using some public funds, Chico Commons is not a conventional public housing project. It was created as a joint venture between the Housing Authority of the County of Butte and other investors, and it is controlled by a non-profit corporation called Banyard Management, which is governed by a 7-member Board of Directors. Rent for the apartments at Chico Commons is based on the median income for the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) published annually in the Federal Register. Each unit size has two rent tiers based on the median income, and a specified number of units are available at each rent level. Applicants who have a Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8 voucher) may apply that voucher towards their rent at Chico Commons. To apply for residency at Chico Commons, interested parties can contact the Housing Authority Main Office or check the Chico Commons Wait List online. The complex offers various amenities, including electric stove/oven, water/sewer/trash included, central heat & air, blinds, carpeting, laundry center, frost-free refrigerator, private locking storage closet, vinyl flooring, and playground.
