About This 1260 Housing Development Corporation

HDC has taken action to meet the longstanding demand for permanent, affordable, and independent housing for individuals with behavioral health issues within the community. This has resulted in the creation of apartments and homes, as well as other housing options, which are available throughout Philadelphia. The success of this initiative has proven that individuals with behavioral health issues can live independently, be responsible tenants, and good neighbors. More than 2,300 individuals are currently housed by 1260 HDC in over 1,500 units throughout Philadelphia. These individuals may have behavioral health issues, disabilities, or have previously experienced homelessness. 1260 HDC and its subsidiary, Columbus Property Management, are responsible for purchasing and rehabilitating buildings, developing new construction, and leasing units. Referrals for housing typically come from the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health, which establishes criteria for access to housing, maintains a waiting list, and monitors each resident's behavioral health services. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm.

How to apply

Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed income levels.
