Freedom's goal is to assist and empower individuals who have traditionally been ignored in the South Bronx. Our focus is on creating long-lasting positive changes in their lives and being a supportive force until they can stand on their own. We accomplish this by working with a variety of groups, including the elderly, at-risk youth, individuals struggling with substance abuse, victims of domestic violence, and those living with HIV/AIDS. Additionally, we offer support to families transitioning out of homeless shelters and assist with organizing tenant associations.

Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government
authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department
addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding
projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed
income levels.
