About This Nathan Barnert Senior Residence

The Paterson Housing Authority offers 96 senior public housing apartments, but only admits qualified applicants. To be considered qualified, the head of the household must have at least one member who is either a citizen or eligible non-citizen and their annual income cannot exceed the very low income limits established by HUD. The PHA is authorized to admit families whose income does not exceed the low-income limit, as long as they have already met the annual 40% targeted income required for extremely low income families. All family members over the age of 6 must provide a Social Security number or written certification that they do not have one. Additionally, applicants must meet the tenant selection and suitability criteria, including attending and successfully completing the PHA's pre-occupancy class. The PHA is committed to treating all applicants fairly and equally. For more information on the Low Rent Public Housing Program, contact 973-345-5080.

How to apply

Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed income levels.
