About This Metro Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA)
The Metro HRA is dedicated to providing affordable and decent housing to low income seniors, singles, families, and individuals with disabilities across almost 100 cities in the region. This is crucial in supporting economic growth and bringing stability to communities and neighborhoods. The largest Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program in Minnesota is administered by the Metro HRA, which provides rent subsidies to private landlords on behalf of low-income renters. Additionally, we work in partnership with state and local agencies to deliver other housing programs that empower individuals with special needs to live independently. The HRA also operates the Family Affordable Housing Program, which offers affordable rental housing opportunities in suburban areas. As a regional organization, we efficiently provide a range of housing programs and services. The Metro HRA has five key goals. Firstly, we aim to assist low-income households in securing quality housing that is affordable. Secondly, we promote freedom of housing choice and strive to eliminate poverty concentrations based on race and ethnicity. Thirdly, we work to stabilize individuals and families in suitable housing to enable them to become more self-sufficient. Fourthly, we strive to upgrade and revitalize the housing stock in the region, which not only improves the livability of communities and neighborhoods but also supports economic growth. Finally, we collaborate with other government units and community organizations to make effective use of resources and to ensure that the needs of low-income individuals across the region are met.
