UCAP, founded in 1964, is the Official Community Action Agency (CAA) of Prince George's County since 1978. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, UCAP advocates for communities facing challenges in education, housing, economic stability, and healthcare access. UCAP aims to provide a wide range of services to individuals and families affected by poverty, unemployment, homelessness, crime, and inadequate public health services, aiding them in achieving stability and self-sufficiency. Public housing is a form of housing tenure in which the property is usually owned by a government
authority, either central or local. The federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department
addressed concerns of distressed properties and blighted superblocks with revitalization and funding
projects for the renewal of public housing to decrease its density and allow for tenants with mixed
income levels.
