About This Saint Mary Community Action Agency, Inc.
The St. Mary-Vermilion Community Action Agency, Inc. (CAA of St. Mary-Vermilion) has been in operation since 1967 and is a tax-exempt 501c(3) organization that provides quality human services to those in need. The agency has effectively served minorities and economically disadvantaged residents of the District of St. Mary and the District of Vermillion since 2000. The two parishes have a combined population of almost 110,000 and the agency's board represents the private, public, and target sectors of the community. The agency is headed by Ms. Almetra J. Franklin, CEO/Head Start Administrator, and six Senior Program Managers. The St. Mary Community Action Agency employs 205 full-time, 25 part-time, and 25 contract employees. Their services include 15 "Head Start" centers, 2 district service centers, a housing unit plot, a JAG/Youth Development plot, a 32-unit residential development, 15 multi-apartment housing units, 7 one-apartment residential units for the elderly, a retirement home, a home improvement training laboratory, one central office plot, and one extended central office plot.
