Blue River Apartments is a community in Columbia City, Indiana that consists of 60 apartments. The Walter and Thompson Building, which was originally built in 1971, is available to residents who are at least 62 years old or disabled with no age restrictions. Additionally, the Waterfall building accepts qualified applicants who are 63 years of age or older and have very low income. In 2010, the Blue River Churubusco was opened, which is a 22-unit apartment community in the town of Churubusco. Residents of Blue River Apartments are provided with gas, heat, electric, water, sewage, and trash as part of their rent. The community also offers a convenient on-site laundry facility and a Community Room for events. Aging and In Home Services provide lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:30 AM in the Community Room. Blue River Apartments also hosts a Community dinner in December that is catered for all residents to enjoy. The local library provides the Walter building community room with a revolving library, and the Whitley County Council on Aging provides transportation to local establishments from Blue River for a donation. All Blue River Apartments are ground level, 1 bedroom apartments with an average square footage of 550 sq.ft. The location offers nearby conveniences such as Walmart, Kroger, Walgreens, CVS, Aldi's, banks, gas stations, various doctors and pharmacies, and fast food eateries. Applicants to Blue River Apartments are required to complete a rental application packet that includes a credit consent, police check, sex offender check, previous 3 years of landlord history verification, and any other items that may pertain to the applicant. The rental rates are based on 30% of the resident's monthly adjusted income. The office hours for Thompson, Walter & Waterfall are Monday from 7:30 AM-12:00 PM, Tuesday to Thursday from 7:30 AM-4:00 PM, and Friday from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM. The office hours for Walter are Monday from 12:30 PM-4:00 PM and Friday from 7:30 AM-11:30 AM. Blue River Apartments accepts HUD subsidies and rent is based on 30% of the resident's Adjusted Gross Income.
